So actually is genre?
The word ‘genre’ is widely used in our modern day society, but
what does it actually mean?
Genres helps us to organise books. The two major categories of
genre are fiction (things that are not true and have been made up by the author)
and non-fiction (things that are true and based on fact). Fiction can be
categorized further into romance, sci-fi, mystery, fantasy, dystopian,
historical fiction and many more. These categories tell us about what each
composition is about, and how it is written. Each separate genre has its own
section in any library or bookstore, helping you to decide what you want to
read. But one thing to keep in mind when browsing for a book is that many books
overlap in their genres, meaning that a book could be dystopian/romance, or
something else.
